Review on The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Review on The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Directed by  David Fincher
Cast : Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Taraji P Henson and others
Oscars Won: Best Achievement in Art direction ,Best Achievement in Make up and Best Achievement in Visual Effects
Genre: Drama
Tag line: Life isn’t measured in minutes, but in moments

I watched this movie just on the eve of Oscar awards and I must say it didn’t disappoint me at all being nominated for 10 categories in Oscars including Best Motion Picture and Best Actor in a lead role. The next day ,in fact while watching Oscars I was anticipating Brad Pitt to carry away ‘Best Actor in a lead Role ‘Oscar.
The plot unfolds with young Benjamin button born with really a curious case indeed and initially quite confusing for the viewer as to what’s happening with the protagonist. The complete age reversal concept is so fresh and incredible to watch at each stage as to how Brad Pitt turns younger as time passes. It’s amazing the way the makeup artists could show the progress so well of turning young so gradually and the Oscar is truly deserving for the makeup artist category. The romance between Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett is also well etched in the movie and in fact quite touching as the childhood romance blossoms in to long lasting love as they grow up, in spite of the curious case of the hero. The narrative style of the picture is well suited for a timeless classic like this and maybe a bit slow at places where the present period is shown in the hospital (where the daughter reads out from the diary of Benjamin button to her mother in her death bed).
The movie also holds on to the sensitivities of human emotions well throughout. The love of the mother (Taraji P Henson) to her adopted son(Brad Pitt) is quite moving as she goes about great lengths for her son to have a normal life as much as possible. The beauty of Cate Blanchett would enthrall anyone especially the graceful ballet performance shown in the movie. The story by itself is so unique that it holds the viewer’s attention the full three hours with great anticipation as to what one should expect next. The editing is also well done taking the movie in the proper pace without getting in to too many details unnecessarily but with enough interesting instances to hold our interest.
I must say hats off to the screen play writers who could come up with such a curious story by itself. Thanks to human creativity and imagination that could extend beyond any means and Hollywood has once again proven its ability to come up with ideas out of the box.
This is truly an Oscar movie and is worth giving your attention span for three hours.

Gyming

My experience of 'gyming' for the first time

Well, before i joined the gym in my home town let me tell you what brought me to it...well,i have wanted to join gym for sometime now...when i look back and try to think exactly when was it i decided 'i have to 'join a gym and the desperation always at the back of the mind to join, at the earliest happened some three months back during my last semester of MBA...i had got placed and started feeling reallllly relaxed ....that was precisely when ma love for alu paranthas grew more and more ...they seemed to be suddenly a part of my everyday meal from the nearest dhaba as it was so tasty and cost me a meagre price of Rs12 which could easily accommodate in my student monthly budget...it didn't seem to be of big consequence then ...but three months later ,of having regularly consumed these tasty, fatty paranthas i had to face the consequence -some 5 kgs to my waistline....

Then it was vacation time and finally i was at home...i could fulfill my wish then of going to the gym....i promptly joined the nearest gym which was called the 'star gym' and was in walkable distance to my home....well,the first day i realised i was overweight after all for my height and need to reduce my weight before i could just go to gym with the fancy idea of fitness alone in my mind...the next hurdle came in the form of 'dieting'...something which i never thought earlier would be a part of my life so soon at my single life of 22....well,here it was and i had to face it....No rice or rice made items(dosas,idly..etc) seemed to hit me on the face....being a South Indian i realised how tough it would be to avoid rice completely (not even a single meal a day!)....that was too much now for  a home food deprived person like me,who has been outside home for almost two years now except for the few short breaks i had during my strenuous course of MBA.....

well, i did try my best but in vain i must say...what with all the tempting food around me all the time and with my dad pampering with chocolate ice cream as his daughter has come home after so long and my mom constantly discouraging me by saying 'You eat meals once a day ,nothing will happen..u shouldn't over do it rite in the beginning' i must say it was not easy at all!!

but still i did try with my desire to shed a few kgs and get a slimmer waist line so i can adorn shorter tops (when i get out of home again)...:)my shopping list included six grain bread, wheat bread, cholesterol free butter , barn-corn-oats flakes, fresh fruits ,sugar free fruit juices etc
well, try as i might my resolve did occasionally break down here and there....especially when one takes a vacation with her family in a hill station like kodaikanal (where yummy home made chocolates were omnipresent in all flavors)....

Now to my  shock and disappointment i had gained half kg instead of maintaining or losing weight....Oh God this did undo me contrary to my belief that i would lose weight once i started exercising regularly everyday with a regular diet at least up to some extent...my exercising of 6 days a week for 1.15 hrs each session didn't seem to have much impact without a strict diet it dawned on me finally!

Old friends

Old friends are like Old wine

They only get better as we grow older .....:)This is so true of old friends I realise that now....The ones from your home town or from your school/college with whom you relate so well wherever you go irrespective of how much time has passed since you met them last....You always catch up from where you left off last time and you are once again in the same pitch...that is the best part....you can always be yourself and don't have to think twice before saying anything at all...even all your idiosyncracies...:)isnt that great??
all u need is that one or two persons with whom you can just about say anything and need not fear about the other one getting too judgemental with you...that what makes them special always and makes you feel good about yourself ....They are like the supporting system you need so badly in your life when your are so lost and don't know whether your are going the right way.....they give you the reassurance to carry on and make you feel 'Its okay'....:)
Basically they are the old wine which always taste sweeter each time you taste as time passes and never ending for life!
